In the spirit of Pride Month, Solh Wellness is thrilled to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and the diverse stories that make it so vibrant. As part of our commitment to fostering inclusivity and understanding, we are voicing out the stories of queer folks in 'Untold Solh', a special column dedicated to sharing personal narratives from individuals from all walks of life.
Today, we are honored to feature an inspiring tale from an anonymous contributor who courageously opens up about their journey as a queer person.
“My journey with my sexuality hasn't been an easy one...
When I first found out about the LGBTQ+ community, I didn't realize why I was so fascinated. It felt like a different world than the one I've grown up with, but something about it made me feel safe. Soon, I started figuring out why it felt that way.
As I discovered more about the community and the labels, I began to understand that this was how I had been feeling. It all started with the "Am I Gay" quizzes on the internet. I must have taken the same quiz thousands of times, thinking there was an error every time I got the gay tag, even though it was just the truth. Initially, I identified as bisexual, but even then, I wasn't entirely sure what it meant. For me, it simply meant that I wasn't attracted to people in the same way as everyone else around me.
After years of grappling with labels, I finally found the one that felt most comfortable to me - lesbian. Seeing more and more queer representation in the media helped me come to terms with my sexuality. I could openly talk about it without feeling judged, and the freedom to express myself was exhilarating. Even after using the label for around two years, I still question myself at times. What I've realized is that labels and communities don't choose you; you choose them. What truly matters is that you feel comfortable with the choices you make for yourself.
One of the things I cherish most about being part of the LGBTQ+ community is the number of people who dedicate their lives to speaking up for us. Every time I see a celebrity come out as queer or witness a queer couple in a show, it fills me with happiness. While many people still disagree with my sexuality and may feel uncomfortable, I have stopped blaming myself. Letting go of those who don't accept me feels liberating, and it's a tremendous relief to know that I can surround myself with supportive individuals.
I am incredibly fortunate to have people in my life who fully support me, and they have been there for me every step of the way. I understand that not everyone is as fortunate, but what I can say is that it does get better when you stop blaming yourself. The LGBTQ+ community has provided me with immense support, and I want to give back by sharing this message.”
